Nothing else can torture me as much as reading “Fit Is One Thing: Obsessive Exercise Is Another”. It is hard to imagine the life of those “obligatory exercisers” for a college student who hates doing any physical exercise.
I strongly believe that habits are innate. Physical exercise is the last thing that I would do. Ironically, I was the representative of PE course in the elementary school. It was not due to my “outstanding” performance of physical exercise, but due to my voice which was fine for leading the class to do exercise. I could never forget the embarrassing moment when I came last in the long running exercise in which I was the first in the starting line.
I hate exercise. It is the field that I could never win no matter how hard I try. I became the ascetic for physical exercise in college. I lock myself in the dormitory. I reject any invitation for exercise. The only thing relevant to exercise is to go to PE class. For this point, I was proud to choose Peking University, since I knew later that students in Tsinghua University must take an annual exam in physical exercises. “I would die than study in Tsinghua University.” I said to myself.
I cannot say that there are many ascetics like me in the college. However, have you noticed those girls who advocate the ideology of vegetarianism? They are ascetics in some sense.
One of my friends has not eaten meat for a whole year. She felt so satisfied that she told me “I feel sick even when I see others eat meat.” In my eyes, she became paler and less vigorous after her extreme vegetarian practices. It was even awkward when she mentioned that she could not bear others eat meat. How ridiculous she had become?
The trend of keeping fit is not to be blamed. Girls’ dream of being attractive is also understandable. Nonetheless, which should come first, health or beauty?
The answer is obviously the former. Without a healthy body, nobody can be beautiful. A balanced diet is a must for a healthy body. The irrational practices of considering meat as the enemy of beauty will result in the imbalance of those girls’ daily diet. I was very sad to be informed that one of my classmates had to leave school due to the health problem after losing weight inappropriately.
The girls are not glad with my attack, “Who do you think you are, a boy who never exercises?”
My hatred toward physical exercises is irrational, too. I will change my habit. From the negative examples of the “obligatory exercisers”, vegetarian followers, and me, it is clear that the violation of the golden rule of health is detrimental. The amount of physical exercises and healthy practices should be within scientific volume.
College ascetics who rejects the healthy living style are not to be praised. A healthy body needs balanced nutrition and scientific training.
